Sword Type Xa

This type is much the same as type X though the fuller runs narrower, about a third of the blade width and the lengths of survivng pieces tend to be a bit longer than the type X, something in the 83-88 cm/32.5-34.5 inch range. Both types are concurrent from c.1000 on, there are several examples of each in the finds published by Dr. Leppäaho in 1961 from Finland. The usual hilts are the same as those for type X.
