The first "Knight for a Day" summer camps were a great success. More than 40 kids attended the week-long camps at our new site. The classroom was filled with cardboard, glue and paint as kids poured over illustrations in history and art books for inspiration to create designs for their own shields.

Classes included learning about the lives of people in the Middle Ages through lectures and hands-on experience. For example, after studying about jousting, the class moved outdoors to Van Cleve Park where they were taught the principles involved in throwing a lance. The last day of class included creating a human barricade with their hand-made shields in a mock Battle of Hastings.
