Make history fun at the Knight for a Day Camp WEEK-LONG, HALF-DAY SUMMER CAMPS FOR AGES 7-14 Explore history through fun hands-on projects and activities. - New Challenges and Projects for 2012 - ⋅TRY ON ARMOR ⋅HOLD A REAL MEDIEVAL SWORD ⋅CREATE A SHIELD AND HELMET ⋅LEARN ABOUT MEDIEVAL KNIGHTS & VIKINGS ⋅EXPLORE THE WORLD OF THE PAST Discover the past through the adventurous worlds of the Vikings and Medieval Knights. This year's camp will have new challenges and projects to test your metal and see the past in a brand new way. Explore history as it comes alive at Knight for a Day Camp! Campers experience history through hands-on activities. They'll make models of period armor, try on real armor, examine real medieval artifacts, and challenge their minds with stories of leadership and questions of honor. The unique opportunity to hold and examine actual artifacts and tools from the Oakeshott Institute Collection is a highlight of each camp. Your camper will hold in their hands artifacts hundreds and thousands of years old. On the last day of camp, participants test their handiwork and skill in recreating ancient tests of skill, mind and body! 2012 Camp Sessions Space available in all sessions at this time! Sessions are limited to 12 students. Tuition for each session $165. 	Withdrawals & Refunds A full refund will be granted if The Oakeshott Institute cancels a class. A refund (minus $15 non-refundable withdrawal fee) will be made if the student withdraws by June 1st. No refunds or transfers can be made after that time.
"At what age should kids study the Middle Ages?" Children's books are filled with stories about knights, castles, and dragons. These tales, along with popular movies like "Lord of the Rings", captivate a child's imagination and open the door to a wonderful world of history. At Knight for a Day Camp, our curriculum, designed for kids ages 7 to 14, utilizes this natural curiosity to teach about the lives and culture of people in the Middle Ages, using fun, hands-on activities. Campers learn about the chivalrous codes of noble knights and the challenges of being a viking. They will experience daily hands on activities and explore the culture, art and ethos of these historical cultures.

For older students, we highly recommend the Medieval Minnesota residential camp run by The Medieval Studies Program at Augsburg College. This program is designed especially for high school students, ages 14 to 17. You can find out more about the camp at: Medieval Minnesota Camp
Brandon D. Foat Curriculum Director
Brandon Foat is the Curriculum Director of the Oakeshott Institute. He has over 15 years of experience in education, and currently is a history teacher for middle-school students. Brandon's curriculum contributions include content for the study of the medieval, Renaissance, and early modern periods. Brandon spends much of his free time teaching fencing, studying history and related weaponry, studying the martial traditions of the medieval and Renaissance periods, painting, and his family.
