Exciting News from The Oakeshott Institute
We found a new home for The Oakeshott Institute Collection!

Our new site is located in SE Minneapolis at a former church built in
1886. This will be the future site of The Oakeshott Institute. We are thrilled to begin renovating this unique historic building in the Como Park Neighborhood.
It will house the Oakeshott Collection entrusted to us by Ewart Oakeshott and his wife, Sybil Marshall - and other artifacts of arms and armor. The Trust, established under Ewart and Sybil's direction, names The Oakeshott Institute as the steward of the Collection. Although The Oakeshott Institute was established in 2000; it was a condition of the Trust that the Collection remain in England under Ewart and Sybil's possession until their deaths. Therefore, it wasn't until 2005 that the Collection was brought to the United States, and our efforts intensified to locate a building. |

![]() Our first renovation project was a new roof. We have had great luck with the weather and were able to accomplish this in December and the first week of January with warm days and little snow. |
Sadly, Ewart died in 2002 at the age of 86. Sybil passed away three years later, at the age of 91. But their legacy will live on through the work of The Oakeshott Institute.
Our goal is to create a multi-purpose facility that serves the needs of The Oakeshott Institute and the community. To honor the intentions of its founding members, we hope to accomplish the following:
1. Create a museum space to display the Oakeshott Institute Collection and other ancient objects Join our mailing list to find out more about The Oakeshott Institute and what you can do to help. |
